The Imagine IT project and process has certainly been a learning experience for me and my students. I have been introduced to a new subject and curriculum this year. I focused on many aspects of inquiry building and learning as well as some hands on ideas that would create a higher interest level for students.
This school year has helped me to grow so much as an educator and as a Michigan State Urban STEM fellow. I began this journey with the intent of teaching math but found out that I would be teaching science right before the year started. I took it all on with a confidence that I would learn and that it would greatly enhance my teaching and craft. It was difficult at first, however, I accepted the challenge and focused on what could be great with math and science.
I have learned so much through the process constantly evolving and yearning for a change that could be beneficial for my students. I have spoken to my fellow educators and they also have noticed the hard work I have put into becoming the best science teacher I can be. My students have shown me that science can be lots of fun and that even when something is new or unfamiliar you can make it work.
I also received the ESP grant through NEED.org and this has allowed me to gain more of an understanding of energy and the world around us. The students have showcased their work through a STEM club and also through their day to science learning.
I am learning so much about myself as a leader as well I know that I would like to help others incorporate STEM ideas into their teaching and this is what I look forward as near future goal.
