Setting Goals: Instrumental and Missional Thinking
My goals are entirely centered around future building and impact. I think that the goals I have are missional in that they are set up to have an effect rather than just a general idea. In his article, Katz writes, "Yet technology is not something that happens to us. We create it." Therefore, we must set goals that are meant to change things, and we must make that change. At this moment, I have my mind set on making a greater difference than I feel I have already made. Each day I look at my students and I think about the impacts that they will one day make. When I think about myself I know I have made a difference but can I possibly be driven to do something bigger than this?
This thought comes from my current experience as an educator and also from my wonderful experience with MSU Urban Stem.
My first goal is to figure out what I really want to do in the immediate future. Do I want to remain a classroom teacher, become a coach, or continue my own educational goals with another program? I would really love to someday write my own book and share all of my teaching and educational experiences with others. I think I am on my way there having already been part of the Amazing Stem book :)
Another goal is more of a personal goal in that I am better able to be a leader in my life, decision making has always been a struggle. I would like to become more comfortable in the decisions that I make for myself without worrying so much about what others will think.
I think that I am definitely a goal setter and planner, therefore, getting organized will be my final thought. In order to be successful in anything, you must be an organized planner for whatever may lie ahead.
