Imagine It Update
With my Imagine It I have come a long way since my transition from math to science this year. I have had several challenges with my planning and overall confidence as a science teacher. I have never taught the curriculum however, I see myself slowly evolving into the curriculum and everything that I do in my classroom from day to day. I have been more able to be create lessons that are hands on and I am noticing that this is an exciting experience for not only myself but also for the students. I have started a new ecology unit, which I absolutely love! I have included more STEM into my lessons, that has had a great effect on the learning as well as the classroom management. Students feel free to explore more looking forward to my class and the activities, especially when we are working in the science lab.
Recently, I have started my classes with science starters that I find on Sciencespot.net. There are vocabulary activities such as science roots and suffixes, mystery photos where objects are magnified and students have to figure out what they are and also science trivia questions. We are building energy houses in STEM club and there is also an energy audit through ESP that students are participating in this week!
I am continuing to teach my curriculum and also making it cross curricular for my students. When we are graphing data my students don’t even realize they are doing math until I tell them that we are. It just makes the learning better when we can incorporate STEM practices and the whole TPack and then being able to have reflection on it later on. This year and the project is definitely coming along in a way that I had not expected it too.
